Roman Shustrov
oman Shustrov was born in St. Petersburg, Russia and he is in love with his home city and his work. His genre is a doll sculpture. His characters are always extraordinary. One of his angels - St. Petersburg’s one - is a nice old man, the other one wearing a pile is riding a bicycle. His Casanova lives to old age and writes memoirs about his love affairs. An elderly and slightly plump geisha, squinted slyly, smokes a long pipe. Roma’s works are made of papier-mache in a complicated manner and they are mostly monochromic. During his living in St. Petersburg the artist got used to dim, rather dirty colors of the home city, but all his works seem to shine from inside: being a very friendly man Roma removes all negative materials even from the newspapers which he uses as material for his works according to a traditional technology.  Roman Shustrov was born in 1959 in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), Russia.
He studied at the Repin St. Petersburg Academy of Arts in 1981-1986.
He started working in a doll genre in 1988. He participated in creation of St. Petersburg Museum of Dolls, St. Petersburg Museum of the art-toys, St. Petersburg gallery of artdolls. From 1992 to 1994 he worked as a lecturer at the High School of Fashion and applied arts, St. Petersburg.
Roman is a member of the Leningrad branch of the Union of Artists of Russia (LOSH) since 1998 and a member of International Association of Authors Dolls (IAAD) since 2006. Roman’s works are in private collections in Russia, Italy, France, Holland, Norway, America, Germany, Austria and etc.
